3 Questions Every Professional Should Ask Before Their Next Review

Most people walk into their review unprepared for the conversation that actually matters. These three questions will change that. Answer them honestly before you walk in the room.

1
What have I made possible this year that would not have happened without me?
Not a list of tasks. The actual impact. The thing that shifted because you were in the room, on the call, or making the decision. If you cannot answer this clearly, your manager probably cannot either. That is the real problem going into any review.

2
What do I want to be true about my role in the next 12 months that is not true today?
This is not about a job title. It is about influence, visibility, and the kind of work you want to be known for. Be specific. Vague answers lead to vague conversations, and vague conversations lead to another year that looks exactly like the last one.

What is the one thing standing between where I am and where I want to be? Am I naming it honestly?
Most people avoid this question or give a safe answer. The ones who answer it clearly, and say it out loud in their review, are the ones who make real progress. Write it down first. Then ask yourself whether that is really it, or whether there is something underneath it.
